There are many things about which people could say “only in the UAE” or “only in Abu Dhabi“. Well the annual service for Remembrance Day at St Andrew’s this year fell into that category as the service was postponed from the ‘normal’ day until Sunday 20th November because of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix event!
Nevertheless, this solemn and sincere tribute to, and celebration of, the millions of lives given in service around the world attracted, as always, a large congregation from the Abu Dhabi community including representatives of other faiths and denominations, the Ruling Family, the Diplomatic Corps and the Armed Forces. The lessons were read by HE Mr Dominic Jermey (UK Ambassador) and HE Mr Michael Corbin (USA Ambassador).
The uniformed youth services (Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies and Rainbows) provided a Guard of Honour before and after the service and their flags were paraded during the service.
The Al Khubairat Singers & Orchestra performed Faure’s Requiem during the service.
“They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.”
